Sand Lake-Ronald J. Cooke, 78, of Rte. 43, died suddenly on Sunday, September 21, 2014 at his residence. Born and raised in Albany, Ron was the son of the late Samuel Vincent and Elizabeth McClasky Cooke Sr. and husband of Joan Alger Cooke. Ron was a 1953 graduate of Vincentian Institute. Ron resided in Troy from 1961-1973 then lived in West Sand Lake before selling their home and spending time between Nalcrest Fl. and the Sand Lake area. Ron had worked for the Postal service for over 30 years starting as a letter carrier and retiring in 1993 from the New Karner Road Facility where he was a Rural Delivery Specialist. Ron was a big sports fan and enjoyed the Valley Cats, the River Rats, the Albany Patroons, NASCAR and the NY Mets, Jets and Giants. Ron was one of the pioneers of the Classie Lassies girl’s softball in Sand Lake and served as manager and president for many years. Ron had served in the NY National Guard and was a member of the Army Reserves. He was a member of the Albany Lodge of Elks #49 and a communicant of St. Henry’s Church in Averill Park. In his own words Ron was the last of the “Good Guys”. Ron was the brother of the late Robert J. Cooke, Jean Turner and Samuel V. Cooke Jr. Survivors in addition to his wife include his children William E. Cooke of Sand Lake, Colleen T. (Tom Bonesteel) Caulfield of Troy, Timothy J. (Kim Haberland) Cooke Sr. of Castleton, Christopher J. (Beth) Cooke Sr. of Mechanicville, Linda C. VanBergen of Sand Lake and Deirdre A. Cooke of Brunswick along with 15 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral Friday 10:30 am at St. Henry’s Church 39 Old Rte 66 Averill Park where a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered. Relatives and Friends are invited and may call at the Perry-Komdat Funeral Chapel 2691 NY 43 at Glass Lake Averill Park on Thursday 4-7 pm. If desired donations in memory of Ronald J.
