Averill Park-Ryan E. Lane, 42, of Glass Lake Road, died unexpectedly on January 5, 2018 after surviving a long battle with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.  He was the loving father to Jeffrey E. (12) and Kaysie R. (10) Lane and husband to Alexis Dodd Lane.  
He was born in Sidney, NY and grew up in Delhi and Chenango Bridge, NY and was a 1993 graduate of Chenango Valley Central School where he played on the high school football team and was active in Boy Scouting. He was a member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Chenango Bridge. 
Ryan attended St. Bonaventure College and in 1994 joined the U.S. Coast Guard where he very proudly served until 1998. He was selected into the elite group of Rescue Swimmers during his service.  Ryan worked for the U.S. State Department, briefly for the U.S. Geological Survey in Virginia and Digital Nation/Verio in Alexandria, VA.  He graduated from Northern Virginia Community College with an Associate’s Degree in Computer Science in 2005. Ryan worked in the computer field in the Capital District at I-Centrix/Solution Set/Epsilon. He had most recently worked for Bennington College, where he was a Network Engineer.
He was active in his children’s activities, participating with the Miller Hill Sand Lake PTA, Girl Scout Troop 1052, Cub Scout Pack 526, and serving as an Assistant Coach with the Troy-Albany Youth Hockey Association. He enjoyed skiing, hiking, and outdoor adventures.  Ryan was an accomplished gourmet chef. Throughout 2014, Ryan was proud to have been a foster dad to two young children as well.
In addition to his wife and children he is survived by his father Neal (Beth) Lane of Niskayuna and mother Dorothy Kohinke (James Andrew) Pierce of Whitney Point, NY.  Ryan is also survived by his sisters Karin (David Bedell) of Sleepy Hollow, NY, and Sarah (the late Richard) Benson of Leesburg, VA, his grandmothers Marion Kohinke of Albany and Ruth Pierce of Chenango Bridge, in-laws Ken and Jan Dodd of Dandridge, TN, brother in law Stefan (Sarah) Dodd of Ashburnham, MA, cousin/brother he never had Jeff (Trish) Lane, his beloved Pitbull rescue dog Sadie, and several nieces, one nephew, cousins, Aunts, and Uncles.
A Celebration and Thanksgiving of the Life of Ryan will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 13, 2018 at the Church of the Covenant United Methodist at 3055 NY 43 in Averill Park, NY.  
Relatives and friends are invited to call and visit with the family from 4-7 p.m. on Friday, January 12, 2018 also at the Church of the Covenant.
In lieu of flowers the family is requesting donations be made in memory of Ryan E. Lane to Jeffrey and Kaysie’s education funds. Account information will be available at the church. 
The family would like to extend their appreciation to the following: NYOH and Dr. Regina Resta and team, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Dr. Caron Jacobson and team, and Alexis Hargraves, PA at Capital Care in Averill Park for their exceptional care and support during Ryan’s illness. Thank you also to the New York State Police, Fire Department, Forest Service, Department of Transportation, and all the family friends that supported us during this difficult time.
