Averill Park- Sandra LaScala, 74, of Lea Drive passed away on Sunday, January 9, 2022 at her residence surrounded by her family after a long illness. Born in Hempstead Long Island, Sandy was the daughter of the late Emil and Veronica Reddy Ries and the beloved wife of Michael J. La Scala. Sandy and Mike moved to the area in 1969 and Sandy worked at the former Miller’s Market for a number of years as a cashier. More recently Sandy had been a Bus Attendant with the Averill Park School District before retiring. Sandy enjoyed camping and traveling across the US and Long Island. She enjoyed spending time with her family, grandchildren and friends.
Survivors in addition to her husband include her son Shane M. La Scala of Rensselaer, her daughter Crystal L. LaScala of Averill Park, her brother Stewart Ries of Maryland, sisters Ellen Brunkner and Patricia Ries of Long Island, Linda Ries and Christine Pardo of Florida and Margarite Gamewell of Texas. Sandy was the sister of the late Karen Embro. She is the beloved grandmother to Jordan LaScala, Venessa Rider, Bret, Chance and Angelina LaScala and Jason Figueroa Jr. and several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to call 4-7 pm on Friday, January 14, 2022 at the Perry-Komdat Funeral Chapel 2691 NY 43 at Glass Lake Averill Park. Most recent Covid mandates are in effect.
