Brunswick- Tod F. Butler Sr., 85, a longtime resident of Brunswick died on Thursday March 20, 2014 after a yearlong struggle with heart disease. Tod was born in Troy on September 4, 1928, and was a graduate of Troy High School. During the war years he attended RPI while working for General Electric at the Schenectady Steam Turbine Department. After receiving his degree in Mechanical Engineering, he joined GE full time at their Testing Program in Schenectady and then at Malta. In 1972 Tod and former GE employees formed Wright Malta Corp. and purchased the Malta Test Station, which they operated until 2005. Work that began with Project Paperclip, the Hermes Missile Program, and the development of the X-405 rocket engine, continued with the testing of rocket engines and weaponry, and experimentation with exotic rocket fuels. Tod was affiliated with a number of professional associations over the years, such as the society of American Military Engineers, and is a current member of the Early Engine Club, the Sullivan – Jones VFW Post, the American Legion and the Brunswick Elks. He enjoyed gardening, was an avid reader, and loved visiting with family and friends. He will be missed by many. Tod was the former husband of the late Elizabeth Miller Butler; he is survived by his children, Anthony Butler of Wilmington, N.C., Tod Butler Jr., of Ballston Spa, June Butler-Ross of Poestenkill and his grandson Evan Ross of Berlin. Tod was the brother of the late Jeanne Butler Jarrett. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the Perry-Komdat Funeral Chapel 2691 NY 43 at Glass Lake Averill Park on Sunday 2-5 p.m. followed by a service at 5 p.m. Interment in the Eagle Mills Cemetery.
