William h ackner jr

d. February 28, 2013

RIVERSIDE, Calif. William H. Ackner Jr., 61, of Riverside, died on Thursday, February 28, 2013 at his residence surrounded by loving family, after a long illness. Born in Troy, N.Y., Bill was the son of the late William H. Ackner Sr. and Beatrice Jones Shibley and husband of Rebecca Vinet Ackner. Bill grew up in East Poestenkill and was a 1970 graduate of Averill Park High School. While living in New York, Bill had been a tractor-trailer driver for the Freihofer Baking Co. in Albany, N.Y. for many years. After leaving New York, Bill lived in different areas of the country before settling in California in 1998. Bill worked as a salesman and account manager for several transportation companies in Southern California including Americold and CR England, both in Ontario, Calif. Bill loved life and had an unquenchable thirst for adventure and knowledge. He had a lifelong love of hiking and spent many weekends hiking and camping with his wife in the mountains of California. It wasn't uncommon for him to be reading three-four books at a time on various subjects and he had a great appreciation for the Arts, especially music. He enjoyed the simple things in life whether it was a conversation over a cup of coffee in the morning or a big bowl of ice cream after dinner at night. Above all, Bill loved his family and cherished the time that he spent with them. He loved shopping with his wife on Sundays, watching movies or having long talks with all of his children about life, the universe or whatever was on his mind. He took up woodworking later on in life and poured himself into the hobby making many cherished keepsakes for his family. He was an animal lover and especially loved his dogs. Survivors in addition to his wife include his children, William N. Ackner of Albany, Rachael (Patrick) Garosi of Greenville, S.C., Matthew Vinet and John Brumund both of Riverside; his sister, Sharon Catlin of Poestenkill; his brother Roger D. Ackner of Petersburgh, N.Y.; a "special" sister, Marie Flannery of Riverside; and his grandchildren, Ben, Isabella and Katie. He is also survived by several loving nieces and nephews.
