Averill Park- William O. “Bill” Ranken, 77, of Burden Lake Road passed away on Friday, December 23, 2022 at his home with his loving family by his side. Born in Troy, Bill was the son of the late Osbert and Olive Hull Ranken of Poestenkill. Bill was a 1965 graduate of the Averill Park High School where he played baseball, basketball and football. He married his high school sweetheart, Eileen “Bumsie” Chriss Ranken in 1966 and they remained together for 56 years. Bill served in the US Navy from 1965-1969. He was an Airman in VA-44, stationed at NAS & Cecil Field, both in Jacksonville, Florida. He was proud of his Navy service. After the Navy, Bill worked as a machinist and retired from the Watervliet Arsenal. After his retirement he continued to work at XC Associates in Stephentown, NY where he helped build a radiator for the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter, which was launched on August 12, 2005, reaching Mars on March 10, 2006. Bill had a love for golf and worked part time at the Burden Lake Country Club. Bill leaves behind his treasured family who will hold his memory close, his wife Eileen, his son Jeff (Jeannette) Ranken and his daughter Kristi Ranken all of Averill Park, his grandchildren Gregory Ranken of Saratoga, Tori (Ben Walters) Ranken of Halfmoon, Tyler Ranken and Ryan (Hannah Weatherwax) Ranken both of Burden Lake, along with his first great granddaughter who adored him: Parker Walters, his loving sisters Alice (late Edwin) Moses of Poestenkill and Grace (Tony) Russo of Cohoes; his cousin Ruthie Hayner and many nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to call 4-7 pm on Friday, December 30, 2022 at the Perry-Komdat Funeral Chapel 2691 NY 43 at Glass Lake, Averill Park.
