Poestenkill- Robert J. Hoffay, 85, of Flint Drive died on Thursday, April 13, 2017 at the Albany Medical Center after a short illness surrounded by his loving family. Born at the family farm in Taborton, Bob was the eldest son of the late John J. and Mildred Herman Hoffay and the devoted husband for 57 years to Nancy Zwiebel Hoffay. Bob attended the Averill Park Schools and had served in the U.S. Navy from 1951- 1953. Bob spent 30 plus years working at Allegheny- Ludlum Steel in Watervliet where he was a TinSmith. After his retirement he became an all around handyman doing painting and woodworking. Bob enjoyed watching the NY Mets, bowling, darts, camping and relaxing by his pool, but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family and his beloved dog Sarah (Pumpkin Toes). Bob was a lifelong member of the Zion’s UCC in Taborton, was a member of the Sullivan-Jones VFW post # 7466 in Poestenkill and the American Legion Post # 1021 in Wynantskill.Bob was the brother of the late Helen Winney and Frank H. Hoffay.
Survivors in addition to is wife include his children Debbie (John) Bellerose of Kinderhook and Brett (Julie Morin) Hoffay of Brunswick, his brother Fred (Sue) Hoffay of Sand Lake, his grandchildren Ryan (Elizabeth), Justin and Matthew Bellerose and his great grandchildren Jackson and Adalyn Bellerose.
Funeral 10 a.m.Tuesday, April 18 at the Zion UCC Taborton, 741 Taborton Road Sand Lake.
Relatives and friends are invited and may also call at the Perry-Komdat Funeral Chapel 2691 NY 43 at Glass Lake, Averill Park, 4-7 p.m. on Monday, April 17.Interment in the Sand Lake Union Cemetery.
