Poestenkill- Theodore A. Hammond Jr. 90, a longtime resident of Poestenkill, died on Thursday, September 16, 2021 at the home of his son in Poestenkill after a long illness. Born in Pittsfield, MA he was the son of the late Theodore A. and Estelle Clermont Hammond Sr. and husband of the late Mary Murphy Hammond. Ted was raised in Delmar, was a graduate of the Bethlehem High School and joined the Navy and was honorably discharged in 1954.Ted went to work for New York Telephone in Albany where he was an Engineer for many years, retiring in 1986. The Hammond family moved to Poestenkill in 1975 where Ted ran a hobby farm raising rare breed cows of various kinds. He was a 4-H leader and Boy Scout Leader, a member of the Telephone Pioneers and enjoyed golfing and bowling at Highway Recreation.
Survivors include his children Lawrence S. (Marie) Hammond of Stanfordville, NY, Keith A. (Brenda) Hammond of Poestenkill, Bruce V. (Jennifer) Hammond of Middletown, NY and Caren M. (Peter) Rosch of Poestenkill, 18 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. Ted was the brother of the late Shirle Murray.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call 4-7 pm on Tuesday, September 28, 2021 at the Perry-Komdat Funeral Chapel 2691 NY 43 at Glass Lake Averill Park.
On Wednesday, September 29 at 11 am Theodore and Mary will be laid to rest at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery with a brief service.
The family request donations in memory of Theodore A. Hammond Jr. be made to the Community Hospice Foundation 310 So. Manning Blvd. Albany, NY 12207.
