Poestenkill- William G. Daus, 96, of Main Street died on Sunday, March 28, 2021 at his residence after a long illness. Born and raised in Lansingburgh, Bill was the son of the late Frederick and Hannorah Daus and husband of the late Doris Allen Daus and the late Jean Sutton Heffner Daus. Bill moved to Wynantskill in July 1961 and to Poestenkill in the 1980’s. He had retired in 1990 from the Gas Division of Niagara Mohawk where he was a Foreman. Bill had served in the US Navy from August 1943 until March of 1946. Bill was a communicant of St. Jude’s Church in Wynantskill and was involved in many veterans’ organizations including Life Member and Commander at the Sullivan Jones VFW Post in Poestenkill, Founding and Life Member of the Lansingburgh Veterans, Life Member of the North Greenbush American Legion, Life member of the Hudson Mohawk Council VFW and past commander, Life Member Navy Sea Bee Veterans of America from Island X-10 Albany a Life member of the Watervliet Elks a member of the Twenty Five Year Club at Niagara Mohawk and a member of St. Jude Knights of Columbus.
Bill and Jean spent many years in Palmetto Florida during the winter. Bill  enjoyed bowling, belonging to several leagues at the Alpha Lanes and at one time enjoyed hunting.
Survivors include his children Allan (Sandy) Daus and Michael (Marion) Daus both of Wynantskill, James Daus of Nassau, Gary Daus of Troy, Richard (Debbie) Daus of Easton, Theresa (James) Coonrad of East Poestenkill, Michael (Marie) Heffner of Averill Park, Vicky Lee (Joe Novak) Heffner-Williams of Poestenkill and Matthew J. (Molly) Heffner of Castleton his sister Marion Hastings of Conn., 25 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren and several great great grandchildren.
Relatives and Friends are invited to a Memorial Mass 9:30 am Wednesday, May 19, 2021 at St. Judes Church Brookside Ave., Wynantskill followed by burial with Naval Honors at Oakwood Cemetery in Troy.
The most recent mandates regarding masks, social distancing and occupancy levels will be followed.
Bill’s family request donations in his memory be made to the Sullivan Jones VFW Post PO Box 89 Poestenkill, NY 12140
